In the heart of downtown Gassaway, West Virginia, entrepreneurs Nick and Beth Salvo have opened their new business, Bigfoot Braxxie’s Bikes. Located just a block away from the picturesque Elk River Rail Trail, this unique establishment has quickly become the talk of the town and a hub for outdoor enthusiasts, bikers, and hikers alike.

As the first and only bike shop along the Elk River Trail, Nick and Beth recognized early the demand for their services in the area. Their business aligns perfectly with the Elk River Foundation’s Rail to Trail plan, which identified the need for such a business. Their strategic location at 601 Elk Street in Gassaway, Braxton County, ensures that bikers have easy access to bike rental, repairs and sales, but also to a clean and welcoming environment, complete with a bathroom, wash area for bikes, kayaks, and other equipment, as well as a range of drinks and snacks. It is a place where outdoor enthusiasts can gather, refresh, and find everything they need to enjoy their adventures to the fullest.

As a distributor for Trek bicycles, Bigfoot Braxxie’s Bikes offers bikes and electric eBikes, catering to riders of all levels and preferences. In addition to bike sales and repair, they also offer bike and kayak rentals, allowing visitors to explore the beautiful trails and rivers of West Virginia with ease.

They take pride in promoting environmentally friendly practices by repurposing bikes. Their business accepts donated bikes and buys used ones, establishing a program to refurbish them and donate them to children in need.

Nick and Beth’s collaboration with FASTER WV business coach Tyler Brandstetter has allowed them to fine-tune their operations and set their sights on success. Beth Salvos took advantage of a free Kauffman business class in March for entrepreneurs.  In April, they received a mini-grant from Advantage Valley’s FASTER WV program to purchase bikes for rent and store display.  With an aim to transform their establishment into more than just a bike shop, they plan to create an outdoor haven catering to enthusiasts, hunters, and hikers alike. They found Tyler’s one on one business coaching helpful, and attribute some of their success to the invaluable support and capital provided by Advantage Valley’s FASTER WV.
