Meet Jessica Taylor
Taylor Made Restaurant & Bar is strengthening Montgomery’s economy one plate at a time, as well as becoming well-known in the region for fresh, flavorful, and unforgettable food!
Jessica and Travis Taylor took a bold leap into the restaurant world, driven by their dream to bring fresh energy and great food to Montgomery, WV. As a husband-and-wife team, they researched the food business, found a location, and leaned on a brother with restaurant experience to help them get started. Though new to the industry, they drew on their Upper Kanawha Valley roots—and the support of the FASTER WV program—to turn their vision into reality.
With guidance from FASTER WV business coach Barbie Wood, the Taylors created a solid business plan, streamlined operations, and prepared both their kitchen and service team for success. Barbie provided hands-on assistance throughout the early launch process, helping with staffing and payroll systems and crafting a customer-focused experience designed to encourage repeat visits. Her restaurant expertise proved invaluable.
A soft opening allowed them to refine the menu and service before the grand launch in July. Barbie also connected the Taylors with a $10,000 UKAN forgivable loan from the Kanawha County Commission, covering essential startup costs. The photograph that accompanies this story shares Jessica receiving her UKAN loan funds with Barbie by her side!
“We couldn’t have done this without Barbie,” Jessica shared. “She was so knowledgeable about funding and restaurant operations. She was like a best friend to me—her support made me feel comfortable and gave me confidence as we started our business.”
Since opening, Taylor Made has already built a loyal following for its flavorful, high-quality food and created nine new jobs in Montgomery! By drawing foot traffic downtown, the restaurant supports neighboring businesses and boosts the local economy. Posting almost daily photos of their plated menu options, the establishment has cultivated a strong social media presence already with nearly 3,000 followers!
Huge congratulations to Jessica and Travis on a strong start for Taylor Made Restaurant & Bar—and if you’re in Montgomery, stop by for a meal you won’t forget!
